Today, Apple released iOS 6.1. You can read more about it here.
Apple states the update contains the following improvements:
- LTE support for more carriers (complete list of supported carriers at www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/)
- Purchase movie tickets through Fandango with Siri (USA only)
- iTunes Match subscribers can now download individual songs from iCloud
- New button to reset the Advertising Identifier
Apple even did a press release for the update. The press release points out “iOS 6.1 is compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad (third and fourth generation), iPad mini, iPad 2 and iPod touch (fourth and fifth generation). Some features may not be available on all products.”
To run the update, you should connect your iOS device to a power source. [You may also want to sync your device first to make a back up.] Then, tap Settings > General > Software Update and then tap on Download and Install. The file size for the update from 6.0.1 to 6.1 is about 107 MB for LTE devices and about 90 MB for others. As such, you will probably need/want a wi-fi connection.
Following the installation, you may need to answer some questions about your iCloud account (the password). So you may want to have that handy. As part of the end of the installation process, you can now add a security question and another recovery email address too.
