T-Mobile AT&T Merger Challenged

Although the logo uses the phrase “simply closer” it appears that T-Mobile is farther from a merger with AT&T. The United States Justice Department filed a lawsuit to block the merger deal between AT&T and T-Mobile, the second and fourth largest wireless carriers in the US. The case is U.S. v. AT&T Inc., 11-01560, U.S. District Court, District of Columbia (Washington).

In March, AT&T announced plans to merge.

According to Bloomberg News, there is a $7 Billion Dollar cancellation fee that would be owed to T-Mobile, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG if the deal does not move forward.

T-Mobile, it currently employs 42,000 people and its headquarters is located in Bellevue, Washington. The company history is contained in this timeline.
